Founded by Shri K.L. Bansal in the year 1960 with four books on Commerce Subject for Graduation and Post Graduation courses. One of them was authored by Shri Bansal himself.

- From 2000 till 2017, SAHITYA BHAWAN was one of the authorised publishers of UP Board Government textbooks.
- In 2009, SAHITYA BHAWAN entered into Children books (K-8) segment with Activity based textbooks and workbooks.
- In 2010, SAHITYA BHAWAN launched web store www.sahityabhawan.co.in for availability of books online.
- In 2018, SAHITYA BHAWAN expanded the business with the launch of CBSE textbooks, sample papers, chapter wise solved papers, Lab Manuals and NCERT Solutions.
- In March 2020, SAHITYA BHAWAN released E-books which got overwhelming response from readers during lockdown.
